The plastic doesn't look like Bandai?Very nice metallic finish although weird color scheme.
So? I'm sure it still looks better than your 'Bandai' Red Frame. Not everybody can afford Bandai kits.
I think he sanded it before painting for added "grip," but that's just a guess.

this isn't a red frame, is a gold frame... again
can't say i'm crazy over the purple, but the paint scheme is very clean. and the tactical arms has been decaled nicely.
